On Wednesday, November 6, Larry Thomas Shaffer of Kingwood reached out his hand and our God carried him into heaven to live and rejoice with our savior Jesus Christ
Larry was born on August 9, 1943, in Grafton City Hospital, a son of the late Francis and Catherine Leon Wolfe Shaffer. He graduated from Tunnelton High School in 1961 and moved to Fairfax, VA. There at the Drug Fair Soda Shop he met the love of his life Rosemary. They secretly wed 4 months later and recently celebrated 55 years of marriage.
He worked for the Fairfax County school system as a bookkeeper and accountant. When an opportunity arose, he moved his family to Kingwood to co-own and manage Bowyer’s Furniture alongside his wife Rosemary for 36 years.
Larry was a loving son, brother, husband, Pap Pap and great Pap Pap.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rosemary; his son, Marc; his daughters, Andrea (Chip) Pittman and Christine (Phillip) Dulin; grandchildren, Lauren and Jessica Pittman and John (Chyenne) Dulin; great grandson, Nash Dulin; great grandchildren, Nathan Savage and Ashley Jenkins, who are grandchildren in his heart; two brothers, Richard ( Iris) Shaffer and Robert ( Dee) Shaffer; several brother and sister in laws and nieces and nephews that he dearly loved.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. We will rejoice when we are united with him again in heaven. With gratitude in our hearts, we thank Dr. Schwarzenberg and the Pine Ridge employees who loved Larry so much in their care of him for many years. We thank the Preston Memorial nursing staff and Dr. Park for their exceptional and compassionate care in his last week with us. We feel so blessed by their care and compassion with us as well.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Larry’s memory to the Preston County Back Pack program, Fuel for Preston , Preston Animal Shelter or the Humane Society.
Friends may call at Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood on Saturday, November 9 from 4-8 pm. On Sunday November 10, 2019 services will be held at 2 pm with Pastor Marty Turner officiating. Interment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery.
