Josephine Virginia (Madlener) Shumaker

Josephine Virginia Shumaker, age 92, died Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at her residence in Kingwood, WV, with family by her side.

The daughter of Leopold and Virginia Emerick Madlener, Josie was raised from birth by Herman and Anna Allgauer of Manown, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Layne Allen Shumaker.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Terry Wigner, of Titusville, Florida. She had lived the past five years in LaVale, MD, in the care of William and Alice Neely. She was a loved and devoted member of the Allgauer family her entire life.

A graduate of the Morgantown Business College, she worked for the Preston County Coal and Coke Corporation for the next eight years. She retired from the WV Employment Security Office in Kingwood after 30 years. Earning the WV Employee of the Year award, she was also nominated for the national award.

She loved playing bingo and being with family and friends.

Thank you to the staff of both Mon Health Preston Memorial Hospital and WV Caring Hospice for their excellent care and support of Josie and her family.

Private services will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2021, with Chaplain Dennis Lusin officiating. Burial to follow at the  Maplewood Cemetery, Kingwood. Browning Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
