James "Jim" Thomas Sypolt

James “Jim” Thomas Sypolt, 88 of Masontown, died Tuesday May 18, 2021 at Pierpont Center, Fairmont, WV.  He was born August 30, 1932 on Briery Mountain, son of the late Mary O. Sypolt Reid and stepfather, Alex Reid.

James worked on the strip mines as a drag line operator for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, gardening and being outdoors.

Jim is survived by four sons, James M. Sypolt of Kingwood, Robert Joseph Sypolt of Masontown, Jeffrey T. Sypolt and wife Joyce of Morgantown, Kevin L. Sypolt and companion Suzy Keener of Kingwood; three daughters, Sheila M. Larew and husband Klet of Newburg, Joyce Marshall and husband Jeff of Morgantown and Donna J. Hawk, Winter Haven, Fl; step-son, Don Calhoun of Morgantown; twenty-one grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two sisters, Mary Lou Hallas of Ambridge, PA and Patty (John) Martins of Vero Beach, FL; daughter in-law, Gloria Sypolt and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie “Patty” Calhoun Sypolt on January 5, 2005; three sons, Gerald “Jerry” Sypolt, Sr., John Howard Sypolt, and Larry Dale Sypolt; one grandson, Mark Wayne Smith, daughter in law, Rebecca Joyce Sypolt;  sister, Shirley Grguric, one brother, Audrey “Todd” Sypolt.

Family and friends will be received at the Browning Funeral Home, Kingwood on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 3-7:00 PM and from 11:00am Sunday, May 23, 2021 until the time of service at 1:00pm with Pastor Mike Harriman officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
