Hugh “Bunny” Allen Ruggles, age 87, of Rowlesburg, WV, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024 in Morgantown, WV, surrounded by his family. He was born February 16, 1936, a son of the late Norman Russell and Katie Sibyl (Sanders) Ruggles. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra Kay (Snodgrass) Ruggles. Hugh said, “the secret to a long marriage is to have each others six.”
He was a graduate of Tunnelton High School and a veteran having served as an Airman 3rd Class in the US Air Force where he worked as an airplane mechanic. Hugh was a hard working man who sacrificed everything for his family. He retired having worked as a mailman for the US Postal Service. He was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed taking long walks in the woods, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed farm work and working at his sawmill, but most of all he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he is survived by: one son, James Ruggles and wife Lewellyn, of Terra Alta; two daughters, Mindy Friend and husband David, of Rowlesburg, and Cindy Ruggles, of Tunnelton; six grandchildren, Chad Ruggles, Skyla Dakan, Tereaza Stull, Amanda Ruggles, Alex Ruggles, and Gwen Ruggles; two great grandchildren, Lincoln Ruggles, and Easton Dakan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded death by: Frank “Hop” Ruggles, Darrell Ruggles, Wade Ruggles, and Alma “Fuzzy” Burrows, June Hawley.
Friends may call at Kingwood Funeral Home, 295 S. Price Street, Kingwood, on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024 from 4 pm until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 6 pm with Pastor Lowell Moore officiating. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by the honor details of the VFWs and Vietnam Veterans of Preston County and the US Air Force honor guard. At his request cremation will be accorded after the services.
