George Harvey Adkins, 93, of Kingwood, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at home with loving family by his side.
He was born December 2, 1926, in Hamlin, a son of the late Harry Lucian and Rose Alfa
(Stowers) Adkins.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a well tender for Columbia Gas for 32 years. George grew up farming, was a league bowler in his younger years, loved working in his garden and sharing his crops. He was an avid Turkey hunter.
He is survived by his sons, Barry Adkins and wife, Connie of Kingwood and Larry Adkins and wife Mary of Charleston; six grandchildren: Brandon Adkins, Shana Nine, Erin McClanahan, Misty Vaughan and Michael Adkins; step-grandchildren: William Greaser and Tammy Thiel and one foster granddaughter: Faith Mitchell; eleven great grandchildren: Tyler, Trenton and Taylor Adkins, Delaney Nine, Austin , Ashley and Morgan McClanahan, Kenny Ramella, Cody Daniels, Aubrey and Kate Akins; three step great grandchildren: Steven, Christopher and Justin Thiel, one great great grandson: Mikel Ramella and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Sara Gladys (Dollen) Adkins in 2017; he was the last survivor of twelve siblings; grandson, Matthew Adkins and foster daughter: Shannon Stafford.
Family will receive friends at Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood on Friday, February 28 from 4 till 8 pm. Service will be held at the Kingwood Southern Baptist Church, on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 1pm with Chaplin Sonny McNear officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
