George Michael (Mike) Layton

George Michael (Mike) Layton, 62 of Moatsville, died Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at home with loving family by his side.

He was born June 11, 1956, in Grafton, a son of the late Walter Waldo and Charlotte Marie McMurdo Layton.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He served in the WV National Guard from 1976-1982, then worked as a coal miner. George loved coon hunting, farming and 4-wheeling with his family and friends and was referred to lovingly as Atlas.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Daff Layton, together 31 years; son, Richard Allen Daff of Hilton Head Island, SC; daughter, Trisha Marie Layton and companion, Chris Boring of Masontown, brother, Mark (Duke) Layton and wife, Lisa of Tunnelton; two sister, Linda Molisee and husband, Butch of Wayne, MI and Mary Howell and husband, Tom of Tunnelton; a grandchild, Kendall Olivia Thorn; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert (Bob) Layton and a sister, Marsha Ann Layton.

The family will receive friends at the Mt. View Church in Tunnelton on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 11am-1 pm the funeral hour with Pastor Mike Matlick officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Preston County Honor Guards and the WVANG Military Funeral Honors.
