Frederick Otis Shay Sr., 75, of Newburg, died Monday, October 2, 2006 at Monongalia General Hospital. He was born September 20, 1931 in Rowlesburg, Lantz Ridge Community, the son of the late Holden B. and Ethel Myers Shay. He was a member of the Birds Creek United Methodist Church and had worked for 33 years as a machine operator for Sterling Faucet at their Reedsville and Morgantown facilities. A foster parent for 16 years, he also worked as a maintenance man at the Preston County Courthouse and as a carrier for the Dominion Post in Preston County. He was an avid outdoorsman and a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, JoAnn Rodeheaver Shay; one son, Frederick O. Shay Jr. of Newburg; one daughter, Diane Shay of Morgantown and three sisters, Jennie Mae Frazier of Newburg, Mary Pyles of Terra Alta and Helen Knotts of Rowlesburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis Shay and Holden ""Bud"" Shay and one sister, Lois Shay. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 5th at the Browning Funeral Home, 201 East Main Street in Kingwood. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 6th in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Sonny McNear officiating.
